Free from the warp

O_0 yeah, vanished for a while, University finished (woo masters degree), Trans-Atlantic migration and adapting back to life in London.

Onto the hobby then, well, I have 10 IG guardsmen primed and a few painted up, used Allthings 40k's colour scheme and tweaked it a little, also have a leman Russ I managed to get quite cheap that I am planning to magnetize, that will be fun. Have a finished (once the weapons are painted) magnetized Sentinel. Now all I need is some time to finish off the other 10 guards men, command squad, heavy weapons squad (yep you guessed it, I got a box set). so what do I plan to do with them, well given my concepts of tactics anf fluff, 1 full platoon (thats going to be fun) several vet squads in chimeras and some trimmings (fluffy: Rogue Trader expeditionary force, land, steal, flee, so the archeological dig team gets guarded by the platoon, vets run recon, commanders... sit around in tents doing nout, also need a bigger Battlefleet Gothic... fleet)

BFG: 1 overlord, 4 lunar, 7? cobra (somehow have 7 when it should be 6) 3 firestorm, plus a space marine battle barge, and a converted ship to act as a carrier. nice little Rogue Trader fleet to start from.

Also, I need a club, my closet GW center is about a 45 min away something closer would be nice, so if any London clubs near to Harrow are recruiting let me know, but word of warning other than having read the rule book, no game time in about ten years... yeah need a boot camp.

On rouge and rogues also comics

Thanks to Mr Esty for pointing out the typo, I will remember that from now on, but spell check does not read minds apprently, oh well.

I have been reading All Things 40k recently, and I may be pinching his Imperial Guards colour scheme, looks good and his tutorial is impeccable. http://masterdarksol.blogspot.com/2010/05/step-by-step-imperial-guard.html

Also of note is his comic, so for fun and putting my wacom tablet to use I might doodle some missadventures of my Rogue Trader and his crew. Who knows, might add some life to my army once I start building it in about a month.

other than that, shamlessly cop...following in the footsteps of greatness, 5 days to finish my thesis, oh joy.

oh the colour scheme

I am torn, while the fluff would stipulate some sort of urban camo, and here http://commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=howto&action=display&thread=4071, is a almost perfect guide for urban looking guard. The problem i see is that I will most likely end up playing on rural style boards given that this is the general gaming table it seems.

So, given that a rouge trader would probably just have surplus gear... thinking just the standard cadian camo scheme might be more fitting.

hmm... oh the colour scheme, how you mock me

heavy transport

Shamlessly copying the design of the valkyrie, but if the math works out, and I can only check once i have some models and a tank to work from, I should be able to deploy a tank and a minimum platoon in one go.

drinky drinky

So as a rouge trader, i need to take part in the sports fitting the whims of my troops, keep them all in line and what not

France and Ura... somin or other... very popular with the troops you seee, but france not be able to take advantage of a 11 to 10 advantage... poor performance, very poor.

i am ghoing to sleep off the beer now. bye bye and enjoy the world cup!

Rouge trader army

Imagine it if you will, a rouge trader ship/fleet drops out of the warp, looks around and sets sail for a planet in the system. Once orbit is achieved (possibility of combat if some one wants to play some gothic) communications are opened with what ever is incharge of the planet, xeno, AI, daemon, or lost human civilization, and landing rights are either granted, or the rouge trader has to force their way in, (should probably pick up the expansion rule books, might help with some ideas) or seeing as the world was too primative or generally unpopulated landing operations begin.

Along the troop carrier, mother ship, mobile rock, or what ever the rouge trader has, small to large orbital landers start landing, and this is where some of my problems start. What should they look like? While a rouge trader can have IG regiments, would they be uniform, or would under hive gang members have been pressganged into the rouge trader army at the last port of call? Hmm, oh the colour scheme, how you confound me.

The idea I had was for a cadian urban colour scheme, seeing as my rouge trader would typically be picking over the remains of a dead world or "picking up" everything that wasn't nailed down on populated worlds. Bah, while I have seen some urban camos I like around the place, should i go with it? Rouge traders are meant to be a little eccentric, outgoing, type A personalities, so issuing drab un-impressive armour might not be in line with it, but then again, practical in the field is not always practicle in the ball room, officers and the like would have dress uniforms...

Meh, still need to buy paints, models and what not once im home, gah 60 days as of today.
